Savona is Costa Cruises' home port on the Italian Riviera and, for many guests, the starting point of a western Mediterranean cruise. The modern Palacrociere terminal, built and run by Costa, sits on the edge of the city centre, a few minutes' walk from the arcaded streets, the old harbour and the mighty Priamar Fortress.
What to Do in a Day in Savona

Savona's compact centre is easy to explore before boarding or after you return. Walk up to the 16th-century Priamar Fortress for views over the harbour, see the medieval towers around the old harbour, including the Torre del Brandale and the Torretta (Torre Leon Pancaldo), and visit the Cathedral with its own Sistine Chapel, commissioned by Pope Sixtus IV, who came from the area. Stroll under the arcades of Via Paleocapa and try farinata, the local chickpea flatbread. With more time, the Riviera villages of Noli, Finalborgo and Varazze are a short drive or train ride away.
The tours below are not organized by the cruise lines. Bookings are made directly with GetYourGuide and you are responsible for getting back to the ship on time. If you prefer the cruise line's guarantee, contact our travel advisors after booking.

Genoa Airport (GOA)
Genoa Airport is about 50 km from the Palacrociere, 45–60 minutes by car or taxi along the A10 motorway in either direction. By public transport, the Volabus links the airport with Genova Piazza Principe station, where regional trains to Savona leave regularly — allow about 1.5–2 hours in total. Nice Airport (NCE) is about 150 km away, roughly 2 hours by car.
City Centre (Old Harbour)
The Palacrociere sits on the edge of the city centre: the old harbour (Darsena), the Torretta and the arcades of Via Paleocapa are 5–10 minutes on foot, and the Priamar Fortress about 10 minutes. No transport is needed to reach the main sights.
Savona Station
Savona's train station is about 2 km from the terminal — roughly 20–25 minutes on foot, or a few minutes by taxi or local TPL bus. Regional trains run between Savona and Genoa in 40–60 minutes, and Intercity trains link Savona with Milan and with Ventimiglia (for connections to Nice) along the Riviera.

Frequently Asked Questions
Savona is first and foremost Costa Cruises' home port: Costa built and operates the Palacrociere terminal, with departures to the western Mediterranean for most of the year. Other cruise lines call at Savona only occasionally.
Yes. There is a dedicated cruise car park inside the Palacrociere area, so you can walk straight to check-in without a shuttle. Spaces are limited and must be reserved in advance; on busy days car parks outside the centre are also used, with a shuttle bus to the terminal. Prices depend on the length of your cruise — check the current options in your Costa booking documents. By car, the port is about 10–15 minutes from the Savona exit of the A10 motorway.
The nearest airports are Genoa (about 50 km), Nice (about 150 km) and the Milan airports (2–2.5 hours away). From Genoa, regional trains reach Savona in 40–60 minutes, and Intercity trains from Milano Centrale towards Ventimiglia stop in Savona too. From Savona station, the terminal is about a 20-minute walk or a short taxi ride.
